The winners also dominated the 2nd quarter and at half time held a 4-11 to 0-1 lead.

Ladies Football, Intermediate Championship, Round 4
Late Culligan point put Fergus Rovers through to semi final
Fergus Rovers 0-13 Eire Og 2-07
A late point from Rebecca Culligan earned Fergus Rovers a draw against Eire Og in the final group match in the Intermediate championship at Lissycasey on Sunday evening last. It was a crucial score as the draw sent Fergus Rovers through to the semi final while it ended Eire Og’s involvement in the championship when moments earlier it seemed as if the reverse was on the cards.
Fergus Rovers started very well. They dominated the opening quarter outscoring their opponents by 7 points to two. The impressive Orla Devitt had the game’s opening score but then Fergus Rovers took over kicking 7 unanswered points, 6 from play through Rebecca Culligan (2) Louise Griffin (3), Aine Slattery and Hannah Mai Neylon. Surprisingly they did not score during the second quarter while Devitt pointed for Eire Og to leave the half time score seven points to three.
Eire Og really powered in to the game in the third quarter. They put 1-04 on the board the goal compliments of county star Orla Devitt while Rovers added three points and so at the end of the third quarter the sides were level 0-10 to 1-07. A Louise Griffin free edged the home side ahead before Jodie Russell rattled the net for Eire Og to put her side in to the lead for the first time. Lauren Griffin narrowed the gap to one but Eire Og appeared to be in the driving seat. With time running out Rebecca Culligan won possession and her fine effort was rewarded when her kick from distance sailed high over the bar to seal the draw and send her team through to the last four.
Orla Devitt who lined out at centre forward was Eire Og’s stand out player while Sophie Hanna, Roisin Martin, Aoife Corey, Sarah Redmond and substitute Ella Cahill all played well for the town.
For Fergus Rovers, Louise Griffin and Rebecca Culligan were in fine form up front. Lauren Griffin and Theresa Hill played well in the defence while Mairead Hayes made a fine save and did well with kick outs.

The winners completely dominated the opening half leading 3-03 to 0-1 at the water break and by 3-07 to 0-02 at half time.

From a Fergus Rovers point of view it was good to see Theresa Hill (nee Meaney) back in action having to retire early in last week’s opening round with a leg injury. She had a fine game at corner back.

Intermediate championship Round 2 (26-09-2021)
Fergus Rovers 1-10 Miltown St. Josephs 2-07
An excellent goal from super sub Abby Downes earned Miltown a share of the spoils in this highly entertaining competitive Intermediate Championship Round 1 match at Lissycasey on Sunday evening.
Fergus Rovers were the superior side in the first half. They built up a four point lead in the opening quarter with Louise Griffin particularly impressive notching three points while Meabh McCarthy, Ciara O’Malley and championship debutant Hannah Mai Neylon all raised white flags. Rachel Healy scored both Miltown’s points and so at the first water break the home side enjoyed a 4 point cushion 0-6 to 0-2.
Louise Griffin put Fergus Rovers further ahead when she scored her team’s only goal but Elisha Twoomey wiped that score out with a goal of her own and at half time Fergus Rovers still had four points to spare, 1-7 to 1-3.
Miltown, last year’s county finalists who were forced to line out without Fiona Lafferty and Caoimhe Carmody really did damage in the 3rd quarter with unanswered points from Aine Talty, Abby Downes and Eimear Keane to leave just the minimum between the sides, 1-7 to 1-6 at the second water break while Mairead Hayes ensured her side stayed in front when she pulled off a fine save.
Louise Griffin and Rebecca Hill pointed for Fergus Rovers to stretch the lead out to three before Sarah Looney and Hannah Mai Neylon exchanged points. The game was there for the taking for the home side but missed opportunities proved costly. An excellent move by Miltown which resulted in the equalising goal from the aforementioned Abby Downes proved to be the final score of the game.
Lauren Griffin was very impressive in defence for Fergus Rovers as was the returning Theresa Hill until she had to retire with a leg injury before half time. Louise Griffin who missed last year through injury was in fine form at centre forward while Rebecca Hill and Hannah Mai Neylon were also to the fore. For Miltown the Keane twins Aine and Eimear, Grainne Lynch and substitute Abby Downes all contributed handsomely while Siobhan Talty made a crucial save.
Fergus Rovers travel to Newmarket next week end for Round 2 while Miltown entertain Eire Og.

Two evenly matches sides served up an entertaining game of football in Round 2 of the Junior B championship at Crusheen on Sunday morning last.
The first quarter was very entertaining in terms of scores, Fergus Rovers put 5 points on the board through Orla Hogan and two each from Aine Kelly (one from a free) and Myra Daly Talty while Crusheen were fortunate to be ahead at the water break 1-3 to 0-5 after an effort from Jess Tubridy ended up in the net following confusion in the Fergus Rovers rearguard.

The experienced Myra Daly Talty equalised from play with a fine point and there was still plenty of time for a few more scores but it ended all square to put Fergus Rovers in a good position as they had defeated Miltown in Round 1 a week earlier.

U 14 A Final
Fergus Rovers 3-11 Kilrush Shamrocks 2-06
In the same week that Meath caught the attention of the nation after their sensational win over 5 in a row seeking Dublin, locally the young teenagers of Fergus Rovers and Kilrush did likewise in Kilmihil on Thursday evening last when they served up an intriguing contest in the U 14 A championship final played before a fine attendance.
While there was never much between the sides until the closing minutes Kilrush did start the brighter and at the first water break held a three point advantage, 1-02 to 0-2 the goal coming from midfielder Aisling Crowe. Fergus Rovers can thank their first half goal keeper Phoebe O’Shea for keeping her side in the game when she produced three top class saves in the opening quarter. Gradually the winners put three points on the score board through Kate Lees, Keeva Culligan and a Sophie Culleton free while Hazel O’Shea once and the impressive Aibhlinn Cotter twice pointed for the Shamrocks. At half time Kilrush were 1-3 to 0-3 in front and had enjoyed a greater share of possession.
On the turn over Fergus Rovers switched goal keepers, it was a move that contributed handsomely to their second half performance as Phoebe O’Shea added an edge required. She began her outfield duties at full back and later moved to midfield where her driving runs paid huge dividents. Keeva Culligan also made a crucial save in the second half while there were excellent defensive displays from Eimear Lynch, Abbie Cahill and in particular wing back Hazel Keating. Ria Meaney really came in to the game during this spell while both half forwards Sophie Culleton and Sadbh Griffin made telling contributions with four and two second half points respectively. Ivanna Costelloe rattled the net for the winners but back game a gallant Kilrush with a like score from Heather Murphy and at the 2nd half water break Fergus Rovers held a one point advantage 1-7 to 2-3.
Enter substitutes Megan Custy and Katie McDonnell who like Leah Culligan and Lauren Leahy all made telling contributions. Custy and McDonnell both scored goals to seal an eight point win a margin that did not look likely until the closing minutes.
After the game Co. Secretary Monica Callinan from the host club presented the Collins Jewellers cup to Fergus Rovers captain Katie McMahon ending a 33 year gap since the club last won this prestigious title.
Fergus Rovers; Phoebe O’Shea 0-1, Eimear Burke, Eimear Lynch, Rebecca McNamara, Hazel Keating, Abbie Cahill, Kate Kelly, Ria Meaney, Keeva Culligan 0-1, Sophie Culleton 0-5 (0-4f), Ivanna Costelloe 1-1, Sadbh Griffin 0-2, Kate Lees 0-1, Katie McMahon (capt), Sarah McNamara.
