Tomas less 45th Birthday fundraiser.( 12-6-20)
On June 19th 2020 I will celebrate my 45th Birthday and to mark this milestone I am undertaking to complete a 45Km fundraiser run and donate all proceeds to Fergus Rovers Ladies Football Club.
For the past number of years I have been involved with this Club as a Mentor with various age groups. We cater for girls from Lissycasey, Ballynacally & Ballyea ranging in age from U6 – Adult level as well as a Gaelic Mothers 4 other team. Since my involvement with the Club the number of girls taking up the sport is on the increase. In 2015 we had 150 members; in 2019 we have 250 members.
The Club fields 2 teams’ at all underage levels to ensure all girls get adequate game time and to ensure all get to develop their sporting skills, Sport is vital to encourage participation in activities, develop social skills, develop girls to work as part of a team and also develop leadership skills. All these skills are extremely important nowadays for young people’s health and provides them with valuable skills which they will utilize throughout their life. Participating in sporting and physical activities is also vital for mental health and provides children with an outlet to escape the pressures presented to the youth in these current times. Our club aims to cater for all children within the community.
However with the increasing numbers come increasing costs. Due to the Coronavirus this year the club has been unable to proceed with its traditional fundraisers which are vital towards providing necessary funding for the running of the Club. We are currently restricted to carry out our fundraising on line which is why I have decided to undertake the this run and support the Club continue the good work of promoting sport and the health and wellbeing of the youth of our community.
I hope that you will be able to support me & the Club in this venture.
Yours in sport
Tomàs

Return to play (12-6-20)
Joint Media Release from the GAA, An Cumann Camógaíochta and the LGFA Covid-19 Update – Safe Return to Gaelic Games.
The GAA, An Cumann Camogaíochta and the LGFA have today published a plan for a safe return to Gaelic games for the three organisations.
The plan is the work of a specially appointed Advisory Committee, which included representatives of all three bodies, the GPA and a number of medical experts .
It offers a route back to activity, subject to the government timelines being achieved in the weeks and months ahead.
It is broken down into sections covering Medical Advice; Preparing for a Safe Return; Information for Players and Team Personnel; Summary and Checklist; Roadmap for Return to Activity

Some of the stand-out elements of the report include:

A gradual return to on-field non-contact activity in Phase Three of the Government plan in small groups.
The need for an online education programme and new measures around temperature checking and completed documentation before training and games.
A return to contact sport on July 20.
Provisional windows for club activity and the return of inter-county training and competitions.
The document mirrors the Government roadmap and outlines the opt-in approach of the wider Gaelic games family regarding a possible return to activity and play.
It is being distributed to all units today with a view to providing them with time to put in place the necessary arrangements to facilitate a return to activity.

The sad death of Johnny Cleary, (April 20)
Its with great sadness we hear of the death of Johnny Cleary Lissycasey. Johnny was involved with our  club for many years in the 80's and 90's. Johnny managed the minor team to an A title in 1991 the same year he was also part of the management team along with T.J Kelly and the late Johnny Hayes who were involved with the senior side. Johnny's five daughters Marie, Caroline, Yvonne, Fidelma and Edel all played for the Rovers over the years as did his daughter in law Cliodhna. We extend our sympathy to Johnny's wife Pauline, his five daughters and his son J.P. and extended family. May he Rest in Peace.
